About this course

Nano-Bioengineering for medicine is witnessing a comprehensive change shaped by technology and is just the beginning of a new wave of technologies, that will redefine, reshape and eventually transform how we see and how we use medical technologies and treatment methods.

The main goal of this course is to share knowledge on biomedical applications of nanotechnology and it will focus in four aspects of bio-engineering that are important in the medical context:

Drug delivery

Microfluidics / lab-on-a-chip

Biomarkers and biomimetics

Key enabling technologies in rehabilitation and diagnostics

Developments in these areas, both individual and synergistic, are poised to provide foundations for advanced personalized diagnostics and targeted therapies.

The course is designed to be accessible for medical school graduate students (or from other biomedical background) interested in nano-medicine and nanotechnology, as well as students with a background in nanotechnology or engineering interested in nanotech medical applications.

Before starting your application, please ensure you meet the entry requirements.

Who can apply

Students coming from Phd programs / Master’s degrees in nano-sciences and biomedical and health sciences, such as: Bioengineering, Medicine, Biochemistry, Physics, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, among others. After availability places, they can also access postdoctoral researchers and other professionals related to healthcare sectors. Candidates must be studying or working at an institution based in the POCTEP area.

Evaluation

Candidates will be selected through an evaluation of their curriculum vitae and the motivation letter, with an attempt to obtain a homogeneous geographical distribution with participants from all 8 POCTEP regions (ideally 5 participants per region). After the geographical distribution, priority will also be given (in decrease order) to PhD students, Masters students, researchers, and professionals in a relevant area for the course. Likewise, no more optional compulsory, demonstration accredited as a student of some University Center of the POCTEP area.
